Definitely not alliums though the bees behave in the same dozy way on alliums out at this time of the year as they do on these! Vara's right, they're called Globe Thistle, or if you want to go all Latin, Echinops!

DeleteSorry to disagree with the above, but I am pretty sure they are Aliums - most probably the Globemaster variety.
