I was able to see The Flying Scotsman many years ago when I lived in Leicestershire. It had been hired for 5 days by a business to do a promotional tour and was due to cross a large Common near my home. Many, many people, poised with cameras ready were lined up alongside the track and up on the bridge. We heard the shout - "She's coming!" lifted cameras - and she'd gone. In a flash! She flew along at top speed in a cloud of smoke, steam and a great noise and very few photos were taken. However, protests were made and the next day, she came sedately along the track, sounding the horn well in advance and we had a wonderful view from our vantage point on the bridge. Oooohh the smell of the smoke and the sooty spots on our faces were wonderful reminders of bygone times. A glorious sight of a magnificent machine.
Thank you for leaving a comment your interest is very much appreciated! It will be published as soon as possible - depending on whether I am at my computer or walking up the lane, or being chased by the goose or helping mend fences after the pony has broken through YET AGAIN.... :-) Helen
