21st December 2013

A gale last night - really noisy in the trees and I heard our plastic watering can go for a tumble across the front garden (I knew there was something else I had to put away!)
Horses are all fine though, and I reckon it will take a LOT to shift this stone-built house

Today is the shortest day / longest night - the Winter Solstice, the Pagan 'Christmas' (Yule) From tomorrow the days start getting longer again and it is all downhill until Spring.

Bright Blessings for the Solstice to all my friends

Latest News! HENS!

I have hens! Six charming young ladies arrived yesterday afternoon. They are all settling nicely into their new home - pics to follow asap, but I don't want to startle them with the flash just yet.

They are:
Hetty,
Hattie,
Hester,
Hermione,
Holly
and
Heather!

Not that I have any idea which one is which!

Another Woodland Walk 30th November 2013

Another walk in our woods - but this time through uncharted territory!

I hadn't been into this part of our little bit of woodland before because it was too steep, too overgrown and too boggy. However, by crawling under a fallen tree trunk I finally managed to get down to the banks of the upper reaches of the Windfall and walked along it
 (well OK, squelched and squished).

I also had a paddle.
And discovered my wellie has a hole in it :-(

A glorious day in Top Field

and into the woods beside the Windfall...

I was hoping to catch the sun glistening on the water...
didn't work:-(

this is where it started to get muddy

then back up the hill a bit

Goodbye to Autumn

the last few days of November 2013 have been variable - from frosty mornings to cold, but sunny days.
I can't believe we exchanged contracts for this house a whole year ago!

frosty morning - from my bedroom window

Brrrr!
... but the next day it had warmed up a little...
